The event

The Australian Unity Great Australia Day Swim features 1400m and 5km Open Water Swim events on Australia Day, 26 January 2012. Both courses are from the Middle Brighton Pier, around the Royal Brighton Yacht Club marina and breakwater, finishing on the beach in front of the Royal Brighton Yacht Club.

The pier, breakwater and the walkways provide an unrivalled spectator viewing area. Music and food stalls will be provided on the lawns adjoining the pier and baths.

The open water swims will comprise male and female age groups and open events.

Entrants will receive a gear bag containing vouchers for random prizes and a colour-coded swim cap. At the finish, swimmers will receive a Beyond coconut water sports drink, fruit, and an ice cream. The entry price includes a raffle ticket for a travel and accommodation package to Fiji and secondary prizes (total value $4,900), for the first 1,000 swimmers in the 1400m and 5km swims

The first 1,000 entrants in the 1400m and 5km swims will also receive an Australian Unity Great Australia Day Swim T Shirt and a peaked sports cap
